Gulfstream Park bets on $20M renovation

As reported in The Real Deal.

South Florida’s thoroughbred horse racing venue is betting on $20 million in renovations.

The Stronach Group plans to modernize Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach with a new open-air dining terrace overlooking the racetrack. The terrace will feature luxury boxes with private televisions.

The renovations will also include a new infield scoreboard, an enhanced sound system and additional dining tables. Some of the renovations will be finished in the next few months, according to a release.

The Stronach Group’s racetracks include the Santa Anita Park and Pimlico Race Course, home to the Preakness race.

In addition to horse racing, Gulfstream has over 800 slot machines and a poker room, according to its website. The renovations come one year after the Stronach Group added the Flamingo Room to Gulfstream’s third floor. The Flamingo Room is a multi-use space offering sushi, flatbreads and views of the racetrack.

Development is booming surrounding Gulfstream Park. Taplin Development Corp., led by Jack Taplin, is planning to build 320 apartments and a 120-key hotel with a retail component across from Gulfstream Park at 900 South Federal Highway.

Also in Hallandale Beach, New York City-based KAR Properties is building a 38-story, 64-unit luxury condo project called 2000 Ocean.
