The State of Our Island: Casey Key, Nine Months After Hurricane Helene and Milton

Nine months have passed since Hurricane Helene swept through the Gulf, with its eye passing just 250 miles offshore of Casey Key. Milton though made landfall with winds reaching 140 mph, the storm left its mark on our beloved island. Homes were battered, shorelines eroded, and the lush coastal landscape was deeply scarred.

Today, signs of resilience and recovery are beginning to shine through. As of July 2025, there are 29 homes currently on the market, a notable improvement from 38 listings just a month ago in June. Buyer interest is slowly returning, with 4 properties under contract and 9 homes successfully sold since January.

While the island is still healing, the transformation is visible. Rebuilding efforts continue, but many damaged properties have been repaired or are in the process of being restored. The greenery is returning, bringing color and life back to the landscape that once looked stripped and weary.

Casey Key’s natural beauty and spirit are undeniable. Each day, we get a little closer to full recovery. Though the storm tested us, it also reminded us of the strength, resilience, and unique character that make this island so special.
